[14/05/2010] Rotary mowers
The rotary mowers have blades that rotate about a vertical axis; they are powered either by electricity or gasoline engine and they are never human-powered. The rotary mowers use suction and tearing action to cut grass, which often causes browning; however, the rotary mowers cut easily longer grass and are inexpensive.
The first rotary mowers were only developed after the engines had enough power, which power was needed to run the mower blades at a higher speed. Power Specialties Ltd. introduced a gasoline-powered rotary mower in the 30s of the 20th century and an Australian company, Victa, started producing them commercially in 1947. The first electric rotary mowers were also designed in the 1930s by an American farmer CC Stacy, although he never patented his ideas.
