Hover lawn mowers
The hover lawn mowers use electric or gas powered engine that powers a turbine, which in turn creates an air cushion between the mower and the lawn. This allows the hover lawn mowers to be wheelless, which makes them extremely maneuverable; they are also made of light materials and easy to operate since they don’t require heavy push power. The hover lawn mowers are ideal for steep terrains and can cut grass even on very steep hills.
Robotic lawn mowers
The robotic lawn mowers do not require human intervention at all; they are programmable and can be set to start cutting at certain times, after specific intervals, and the height of the cut can be pre-programmed as well. Most models are weather-proof and silent, but a wire has to be set around the lawn, which wire signals to the mower and serves as a border; the same wire can be set around ponds or other obstacles as well. The robotic lawn mowers are typically used on smaller lawns.
Ride-on lawn mowers
The ride-on mowers, also called riding mowers, are ideal for large lawns. They have a seat and various controls and the largest models are the size of a small agricultural tractor. The ride-on mowers come in many different types, but usually have horizontally rotating blades that are mounted either in front of the mower or between the front and the rear axles. The most common ride-on mowers are operated with the help of only two levers – pushing them simultaneously makes the mower go forward, pulling them backwards makes it go backwards, and turning left or right is done by moving the levers in opposite directions. There are models that have steering wheel instead of levers and yet others that use hydrostatic transmissions instead of manual ones.
The industrial ride-on lawn mowers come with even more features like extra-large cutting width and faster speed, which allows them to run continuously and cover a lot of ground quickly. Most industrial and some other high-end riding lawn mower models are serviced by their manufacturers or dealers and have a lifespan of more than twenty years.
The ride-on lawn mowers can tow or mount other devices such as snow ploughs, snow blowers, and yard vacuums.
