News about Lawn Mowers
[13/05/2010] Environmental impact
The lawn mowers range from the very green and clean human-powered and electric mowers to the gasoline engine powered ones that emit more pollutants per hour than a large vehicle; the latter also account for 5% to 7% of the air pollution in the United States, not to mention that millions of gallons of fuel are spilled each year, when they are refueled. The engine mowers are extremely noisy as well and can cause permanent hearing damage, if hearing protection is not worn.
The latest technologies have allowed the lawn mowers’ manufacturers to produce quieter and environmentally-friendlier mowers: the use of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries makes the cordless electric lawn mowers more attractive to consumers and today solar-powered, zero-emission, robotic mowers are sold by some leading manufacturers as well. Legislation and regulation changes in the US and some of the European countries are expected to reduce the pollution, caused by lawn mowers by more than 30%.
